Having returned from an intense training course in Israel I am once again looking to provide the opportunity for Aucklanders to train in the Israeli combative system of Krav Maga. It is now the New Year and a time to make the resolution in creating a happier, healthier; more toned self by investing in you and taking up Krav Maga.

During my time in Israel I have revised and updated my skills by training exclusively for two weeks with the director of my system. It has been a privilege that was worth the huge cost and effort in travelling from New Zealand to Israel. Not only have I come out of this experience a better and more experienced instructor but I have gained a unique insight into the history and culture of the land and people from which my fighting system originates.

From the fortress of Masada under the scorching heat of the Judean desert bearing to this day the remnants of the besieging Roman encampment at its base to the cobbled streets of the old city of Jerusalem with Roman walkways and ancient architecture to the modern museums and memorials that bear witness to the suffering, sacrifice and courage of Israel. I soaked up and was able to understand the true spirit of the martial art that I teach. On top of the regular Krav Maga training I also had the opportunity to train with counter-terrorist armed response units and absorb their insight and tactics in identifying and dealing with terrorism.

Having returned to New Zealand I think that it is only fair that I share this knowledge and revitalize the reality based self-defence scene in Auckland. Simplicity is the essence of the Krav Maga that I teach; some of the techniques are unique to our system others are similar to those taught by other organizations but evolved and crafted in the true and tested way of our organization, Israeli Krav International, in dealing with modern threats.

Even a complete novice to martial arts can immediately yield results and reap the benefit from the tools and tactics of the IKI approach. I will be running a seminar on the 25th of January from 11am – 2pm at the Eagle Sports on Auckland’s North Shore as an introduction course covering the fundamentals of combatives and weapon defence of IKI Krav Maga. Practitioners of all levels are welcome including those with no prior training. Eagle Sports is a martial arts centre for personal development and growth so why not give self-confidence and self-defence a boost rather than the waistline this New Year.
